More Scottish Blackface on the farm. Welcome Chanel, Dior, and our new ram Louis Vuitton (he said no face pictures, he’s loving the hay). Can’t wait till we have some lambs of our own next year.

Josie the Market Dog

This is how Josie feels about Market mornings and rainy afternoons in the shop fixing things. She doesn’t understand why we can’t herd sheep in the rain.

New Friends

It’s been super busy here. Rain has made haying challenging, but still busy moving fences and sheep, gardening, etc… But we got away from the farm to pick up some new additions. Welcome Harlow, or new ram, and Lauretta, or first ewe lamb with new genetics sine we started or Texel flock. These beauties came from Hilltop Acres Farm in NY and we couldn’t be happier. Lauretta isn’t too fond of Josie, but they are both fond of humans and settling into their new home.

Saskadena Farmers Market

If you and your friends are looking for something to do, come down to the Mt. Tom Farmers Market at Saskadena Six. So many Great venders with all kinds of goodies. We’ll be there with fresh chicken, Rhubarb, Pottery by Endine, and new this week Lamb. We hope to see you there to support local agriculture.

Farmers Market

We’ll be at the Mt. Tom Farmers Market tomorrow at Saskadena Six. We’ll have homegrown fresh chicken and rhubarb. Soon we’ll have our own lamb raised right here on pastures in South Pomfret. 2024 First Cut

That’s a wrap folks. With the exception of one small field, 2024 first cut is done!! Woohoo!

Evie

Evie finds that laying in the shade with her humans is the best things to do on a hot sunny day. Sometimes she can be found chasing Josie and wading into the pond after to cool down.

Surprise Part II

Surprise has grown leaps and bounds over the last couple of weeks. She had no problem keeping up with the big lambs and likes to play queen of the rock.

Cogsworth

Cogsworth said his dad couldn’t get all the attention so he decided to pose for some photos in between scratching sessions.

2024 Lambs

Wellington the sire of this years lambs has really performed well. Daily grain this year averaged .8 lbs/day for ewe lambs and .85 lbs/day for ram lambs with several ewe and ram lambs gaining over a pound a day. Every year I’m amazed with how well Texels turn grass into big strong lambs that forage well and keep growing thought the summer on our pastures. We still have some exceptional ram lambs available including Cogsworth who weighs 116 lbs at 94 days old.

Happy Gotcha Day

Happy gotcha day to the best farm dog we could have asked for. Josie has fit in since her first day on the farm and has made herself right at home. her herding skills are coming along and she moved some cull ewes from the barn paddock out to pasture yesterday. I just wish I could shepherd and film, but oh well. Best investment in the farm to date. We love you Josie.

Surprise

And they’re out. Along with Surprise, our unexpected lamb. Apparently Wellington found a yearling in heat on the way home from fall pastures in December so we have a new little ewe lamb. Healthy and happy, but a complete surprise, hence her name

New Chicks

Josie says welcome to the ew chicks on the farm. We plan on taking lamb, chicken, and other goodies to some local Farmer’s Markets this year. Feel free to reach out if you’re looking for any tasty lamb this summer.

Scottish Blackface

I realized we introduced our two new Scottish Blackface last year, but haven’t posted about them in a while. We put more gravel in the Mustang pen to prepare for a new arrival. HD Stangs, Prada, and Chicken Nugget did some quality control testing. Both blackface ewes will lamb next year and we can’t wait for cute little SBF lambs on the farm.

Available Lambs

Lambing is over and despite the rain we are quickly approaching weaning time. The lambs are really eating well on there own. We have several excellent quality Texel ewe and ram lambs that will be available. Reach out if you want to learn more about why we breed and love our Texels.

Drying Out

After 2 big snow storms we are starting to dry out again and the sheep are loving it. The forecast is a couple of nice war, days before rain and more mud. I think we’ve had mud season every month since November. I could do with some nice weather to grow some grass at this point.

Rufus

Here’s a throwback to our foundation ram Rufus. We got our foundation stock from Hill Top Acres Farm and couldn’t be happier with our decision. Rufus gave us some Beautiful lambs and he was a proud papa.

Snuggles

I love our Texel ewes. They take such good care of their lambs. We have several who delight in lamb snuggles and even enjoy being used as a cozy bed. Doesn’t Droplet look happy? I know her lamb is.

Tractor Josie

Things were just starting to dry up here on the farm and Josie had her first couple of spring swims in the pond. Today she’s helping clean up 2 feet of spring snow. We love our Border Collie who can go with the flow. She enjoys farm life. there’s never a dull day on the farm and Josie is up for all or it.
